Heath diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
I just was diagnosed with Mononucleosis and a bacterial infection at the same time :thumpdownand got to thinking...without antibiotics I would be in some pretty rough condition. Do most of you guys stock up on antibiotics and medicines? or what do you plan on doing when TSHTF to treat and diagnosis illnesses?
Thanks, -Balj89 |
Re: Heath diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
Research boosting the natural immune system, and investigate alternative antibiotics (both those natural as well as more readily available veterinary versions of human ones).

Re: Heath diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
Sorry to hear the bad news. I have no idea what, if anything, can make mono pass more quickly. But for the bacterial infection, may I suggest Garlic, Cayenne Pepper, Basil, Marjoram, Thyme, Cypress made into a decoction with apple cider vinegar as the base? It is important to extract the oils from those plants, then discard the plant matter [they've given their all]. Read about it online . . . if you aren't too sleepy!
As far as medicine preps, it is very smart to have some. Getting the proper meds and anticipating every need is probably one of the most difficult portions of prepping for most people. |
Re: Heath diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
Hardest part about being ready is medicine.
Unless you have a MD who will write a few scripts and update as time goes on, not much else you can do. You can get antibiotics online at terrible prices, plus no legal way to get any decent pain meds. |

Not that I've ever ordered from these folks, mind you. I read about ordering from them without any prescriptions in a magazine. Yeah, that's it - a magazine!
AllDayChemist (from India) is excellent. Lots of antibiotics, among other things (diuretics, antihypertensives, diabetes meds...). Most are made by Indian generic manufacturers like Cipla, Ranbaxy, Cooper Pharma - many of the same generic meds you'll see at your local pharmacy. See www.alldaychemist.com . |

Best friend in high school and college is a dentist right here in town. Went to high school with my medical doctor - he loves deer - and I kill one every year and give him the meat. I also ran track with the local pharmacist......I keep a good, friendly close relationship with these three guys....because they are good guys and friends.....and because I had it as a plan in the back on my head.....I may need their help in the future in SHTF....they know i can fix just about anything and we can trade skills.
I also have a medical doctor across the street......I've talked to him and he is now preping. He owes me about a dozen big favors. I fixed his kids cars a lot of times....building up my "bank of favors". Better get to work on building your relationships.....esp. get to be friendly with your dentist...that is one skill you can't do at home......you can mend just about else...but it is tough to repair teeth in SHTF. These relationships may be as critical as proper material preps.....it may save your life. You can also get vetrinary meds that will work on humans...lower cost.....also get some medical books - All mine are next door at my dads house right now....otherwise I'd give some titles.....I've been collecting a few of these over time at the library book sales. they cover a lot of the bases....have a lot of good information. |
Re: Health diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
Having the drugs on hand will do you little good without diagnostic equipment or testing. Is the bacteria gram positive or negative? Is it even a bacterial infection at all, or is it viral, or fungal or...
The drugs might prove to be a valuable bartering item (read "The Postman" by David Brin), if a doctor or nurse or even a veterinarian is with the community. But unless you're trained in their use it'll be a gamble that you're doing anything to help the situation. |

ruprick - very good advise!
also, what kind of drugs (available off the shelf) would be good to stock up on and will last when stored? |

In a genuine SHTF situation, we're going to have to face the fact that there are many advantages of modern medicine that will be unavailable to us. We'll have to make educated guesses and take some risks that we wouldn't take when we have millions of dollars of diagnostic equipment and tests available to us. We may have to make the best guess we can about whether it's more harmful to try to treat a patient without adequate knowledge/resources or to leave well enough alone. To answer the original question: Yes, I try to keep antibiotics and extra of my ordinary meds on hand. Some vet-grade antiobiotics can be used by humans (do your research! not all are safe). I understand that India has some good pharmaceutical companies that will sell via the Internet. SuperSaver Meds has a good reputation. |

My daughter in law is a nurse. Also I live in a small town and we have our own doctor. He is strictly a cash and carry doctor, no insurance accepted.
These places have been mentioned in earlier threads. Most drugs from India are ok. They have very liberal generic laws and so they produce most drugs in a generic form. I wouldn't touch anything from China but I probably didn't need to mention that. http://www.4cnrs-infections.com/ http://www.1drugstore-online.com/sho....asp?gcode=009 |
Re: Heath diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
Taking a Zinc and B vitamin supplement such as Z-Bec does seem to assist the healing process from mono. I had it years ago and was not getting better until a doctor told me that. But unfortunately it is a slow process regardless.

Re: Heath diagnosis and treatment when TSHTF
I'm in luck my dad's a doctor, in fact I rarely go to anyone besides him. I'm sure he has enough perscription samples to heal and army too, LOL. Plus he's a master herbalist, so we're covered.
